Chaco Planning / Packing

Planning for your Journey:

1.  Reserve Your Campsite: (available beginning March 2020)

Your campsite at Chaco Culture National Park will be reserved at the Gallo Campground.  Reservations are made through “reservations” page of the NPS.  (We can not reserve for you as it must correspond to the person staying there)

Please note:  These camp sites will not be available to reserve for our September dates until March 2020.  As soon as they are available – we will let you know – along with the preferred campsites to book.

You will be booking the campsite site with the following dates:  checking in on Sept 20 and checking out on Sep 26.  Most of the sites will allow two tents – if you want to stay close to another traveler.

The cost is only $15 per night.

2.  Plan your travel partners

Arrange your transportation  with your fellow travelers.  We will connect everyone who is participating in this transformational voyage so you can work out the details with each other as they best suit you for your drive to Chaco.

3.  Determine the best car to take

It must be big enough to hold all of the travelers and your gear.  A four-wheel drive is preferable – but not absolutely necessary as the roads are quite passable in a regular car when they are dry.  A bit bumpy but fine.  If there have been heavy rains – a four-wheel drive is a much more comfortable option.

4.  Check the weather a week before

The weather at Chaco varies quite a bit – as it is high desert at 6500 feet altitude.  We will keep an eye on it and also keep you posted.  The weather will be the determinant on what to pack.

Temperatures at that time of year range from highs of 65 – 83 to lows of 35 – 44.  Rainfall average is about 1″.

5.  Assemble your camping items to pack

* Air Mattress
